Energy Reliability Engineering
Custom wind, solar, and battery storage systems for agriculture
and food & beverage cold storage operations.
KJ Energy Development specializes in energy reliability engineering for the agriculture and food & beverage cold storage industries, where power interruptions aren't just costly — they're catastrophic.
We design and develop custom renewable energy systems working in close partnership with Skystream Energy, bringing best-in-class wind, solar, and battery storage solutions including Skystream's newest hybrid technology that combines generation and storage in a single, integrated system.
Our focus is development: identifying the right solution for your operation, engineering a system tailored to your energy profile and risk tolerance, and guiding the project from site assessment through commissioning.
Katie Holmstrom has spent her career at the intersection of technology and innovation, but her passion has always pointed toward energy — the way it's stored, delivered, and experienced by the communities that depend on it.
Guided by an advisor with two decades of renewable energy experience, she made the leap from tech to build something of her own. She partnered with Skystream Energy and founded KJ Energy Development to bring reliable, renewable power to the farms and food operations that can least afford an outage.
For Katie, this isn't just an industry shift — it's the work she's been building toward.
Average power outage per Texas customer in 2023 — excluding major weather events. The USDA estimates refrigeration keeps food safely cold for only 4 hours if unopened.

Average consecutive hours without power for the 69% of Texans who lost electricity during Winter Storm Uri (February 2021). 75% had difficulty obtaining food.

Irrigation accounts for 85% of consumptive water use in Kansas, making it the single largest electricity load in the state's agricultural sector.

Cost per lost kWh for commercial cold storage operations during an outage — roughly 111 times the normal cost of electricity.

We evaluate your facility's energy profile, risk tolerance, and site conditions to establish a baseline and identify the right technology mix.
We engineer a custom solution — wind, solar, battery storage, or Skystream's integrated hybrid — sized and configured precisely for your operation.
We manage permitting, interconnection, and procurement, coordinating with Skystream Energy to keep your project on schedule and on budget.
We oversee installation through final commissioning — so your system comes online right, the first time, with full confidence in your energy continuity.
Grain dryers, irrigation, livestock operations. Harvest can't wait — and neither can your power.
Refrigerated warehouses, food processing, distribution centers. A summer outage isn't an option.
KJ Energy Development works in close partnership with Skystream Energy — a leader in wind and solar technology whose products we sell and install across our service regions.
Skystream's newest innovation is their hybrid wind and solar system — a fully integrated solution that mounts solar panels directly to the turbine tower, optimizing energy production from both sources in a single, streamlined installation. Fewer footprints. More output. Unmatched reliability.
Skystream's proven technology does the heavy lifting. KJ Energy ensures it's deployed in exactly the right configuration for your operation.
